Cameraman killed, reporter missing, and four journalists wounded

Three reporters killed and many other injured while accompanying a high ranking officer of Baghdad operations in Abu Ghuraib town, west of Baghdad.

Al-Baghdadia channel cameraman Haider Hashim and his mate reporter Suhaib Adnan were killed. Iraqia channel reporter Ibrahim al-Katib is in critical health condition in al-yarmook hospital, he suffered internal bleeding and underwent a surgery in his head, the other cadre of the channel is also injured; cameraman Raid Qasim in his head and his assistant Uday Munther and technical assistant Fawzi Edan in their hands, Mohammed al-Khafaji, the state-run al-Iraqia reporter told JFO.

Raid Qasim who survived the incident told the journalistic freedoms observatory (JFO) that many local and international channels reporters were accompanying brigadier Marid Abdul Hassan who arrived Abu Ghuraib town to take part in a tribal leaders' conference where the explosion took place near the general hospital next to the public market.

Qasim added that they witnessed heavy shootings from the nearby houses targeting the journalists and the security leaderships; but the Iraqi army fought back the attack and provided chances to transfer the wounded and killed people to the nearest hospitals.

JFO denounces this terrorist act, and announces the death of Haider Hashim Suhail, it hopes the injured to recover soon. It urges the security forces to conduct prompt investigations about the incident and arrest the criminals that targeted the journalists, tribal leaders, and the security leaderships.
